According to Cherokee legend, humans and animals first lived in the Sky Vault. The Sky Vault was a safe place but started to become crowded. Through a series of events we came down to live on Earth. This new land was suspended by cords, held up by the Sky Vault. But, prophecy tells us that we may not always remain here on this land. These cords may some day fray and break, dropping our solid ground back into the seas.
Fallen From Stars was born from this story and is part of my ongoing conversation about our relationship with the Sky Vault today. This piece challenges the viewer to wonder why the coyote is falling up through layers of stars and clouds.
