Many years ago I dreamed of making a book about my great great aunt Ruth Muskrat. My sister, Jen Loren, and I are honored to announce that we will bring her long-overdue story out of obscurity and into the light, as a picture book biography. We love that children will be the audience for this story of hope. Jen has written the manuscript, and I am busily working on the illustrations!
Ruth lived a life of truth, resilience, and strength, and worked tirelessly to lift up Native Americans. She was a brave Cherokee woman, a poet, and an activist. A big thank you to our publisher Levine Querido for believing in this story, to Ruth’s relatives who also hold her story, and to our Mom and our Granny for being our family historians. Publication is set for Fall of 2026.
